Match Day 2019
This year, the NICAS Match Day 2019 will take place on Monday 20 May in the afternoon. On this day, we encourage cultural heritage professionals to pose questions to the audience through a short pitch, in order to try to shed light on these questions and form new collaborations with the researchers present.
This year's Match Day is related to two new NICAS initiatives:
NICAS On Demand
The founding partners of NICAS have agreed to make research and beam time available in order to answer interesting object-related questions from the field. Museums in the Netherlands are invited to present objects that they feel would benefit from in-depth scientific investigation. Important questions to answer in this pitch are:
- Why you think this object needs scientific examination?
- Is there a problem related to the material stability of the object, or an unanswered art historical question?
- What data and information do you hope to receive from the scientific examination?
- How is research into this object relevant for future research into cultural heritage?
Based on the available expertise and equipment, the NICAS Scientific Working Group will invite museums to submit an official request and make a ranking. NICAS will be able to grant only a limited number of requests each year, but will collaborate closely with museums to ensure that as many museums as possible will be able to benefit from the available expertise.
NICAS seed money projects
This year, NICAS will open a call for proposals for NICAS seed money projects. This call will be for small projects with a maximum run time of one year. Applicants can request a small grant from NICAS that can be used to execute an exploratory research project that preferably has the potential to be scaled up into a full research project if successful.
We would like to ask the scientists within our network to be present in the audience, to reflect on the posed questions from their expertise and to offer potential solutions and collaboration. We do not yet expect fully prepared project proposals to be presented; the pitches can be first ideas, exploring possible routes of inquiry.
We would like to ask you to consider submitting a pitch, but at least attend the day and distribute this invitation amongst your colleagues. You can register for the day using this link ( more detailed programme will be announced shortly). It is not possible to include your pitch yet, but please let us know if you intend to pitch by checking the box in the registration form. We will send you information on how to submit your abstract and PowerPoint presentation in due time.
