NICAS Colloquium Online

12 May 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm CEST

We are pleased to announce a new, online edition of the NICAS colloquium on Thursday 12 May 2022 from 12.00 to 13.00 hrs. The colloquium will take place online through Microsoft Teams

Throughout the year, NICAS organises a bi-weekly Colloquium consisting of two short research lectures. It provides researchers with the opportunity to present ideas for, updates on or results of their activities. The NICAS Colloquium allows people to stay informed on a regular basis about the latest developments and results of research and to exchange information and expertise.

The chair of this colloquium will be Joen Hermans (Rijksmuseum & UvA)

The presenter is:

Paul van Duin – Working towards a sustainable museum climate

Abstract:

Sustainability is one of the key priorities of the Rijksmuseum. The energy required to maintain the present climate specifications equals that of a small village. Much research has been carried out internationally to determine how far these can be relaxed without creating risk of damage. Because every object is different, this has not yet resulted in clear guidelines. Since 1,5 years the Rijksmuseum has a unique working group where conservators and engineers collaborate to advise the directors on how to save energy, both within the present climate specifications, but also by exploring the possibilities to broaden these in a safe way. The presentation will give an overview of the development of the present specifications, research carried out on wooden panels, and the approach of the climate working group.
